We are seeking the next member of our front desk team in our family-run dental practice! Dunstan Dental Center is a bustling, multi-doctor office with a decades long history in the Scarborough area. About the Position:
Our front office staff offers administrative support across the board. At the front desk you will welcome patients and greet visitors, oversee the schedule, distribute correspondence throughout the office, and communicate frequently with both patients and providers.
A successful candidate will:
- Have strong interpersonal skills, as our front desk is the first line of communication for patients. A customer service background is a plus for this role, since it is important to take care of patient needs in a positive, calm manner
- Be an excellent communicator and have attention to detail. Our front office works closely with one another, as well as the doctors, hygienists, assistants, etc. Expect to be in constant communication with others throughout the office and it is important to share information accurately and effectively
- Have task prioritization and stress management skills, since we are a busy office with many providers. You should be able to handle patient emergencies calmly and effectively, while streamlining regular office operations
- Have basic computer and office equipment skills. This role heavily uses computers, so confidence with technology and basic office equipment is important
- Have curiosity for the dental world and willingness to learn! Be prepared to learn all about dental insurance, procedures, and terminology
Ultimately, the duties and responsibilities are to ensure that the front desk welcomes guests positively, works to help patients and executes administrative tasks to the highest quality standards. Previous experience in the dental or medical field is not necessary but appreciated.
The pay rate will be dependent on the candidate's experience.
Responsibilities
Welcome patients and guests as soon as they arrive
Accept payments in person and over the phone
Answer, screen and forward incoming calls on a multi-line phone system
Communicate accurate information in person, over the phone, and through email
Receive, sort, and distribute daily mail and deliveries
Maintain office security by following safety procedures and controlling access
Schedule and confirm appointments with accuracy and attention to detail
Verify dental insurance and provide treatment plans to patients
Perform other clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, transcribing and faxing
Ensure reception area is tidy and presentable, with all necessary stationery and material (e.g. pens, forms and brochures)
Skills
Experience as a receptionist, front office representative or similar role
Interpersonal skills for effective team communication
Hands-on experience with computers and basic office equipment

To keep our staff as safe as possible, we have installed air purification systems as well as an updated HVAC system. All staff wear masks during treatment, and we have installed a large plexi-glass barrier at the front desk.
