RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
- Ensures efficient water resource management across the County campus
- Manages the environmental regulatory permitting and related processing of projects on the County campus
- Oversees the management of campus wetlands and natural areas
- Oversees and manages the County’s arboretum status
- Plans, assigns and supervises the work of subordinate staff
- Coordinates with local, state, and federal agencies for grant opportunities
- Coordinates with various agencies and engineering partners in order to ensure permit compliance
- Provides project recommendations that meet regulatory requirements and environmental project goals
- Conducts quality control inspections on plants and material used on campus projects
- Oversees contract bids, manages contracts, inspects sites for project progress and compliance
- Responds to questions pertaining to various projects on the County campus
- Coordinates and implements regulatory requirements for the Stormwater and Floodplain Ordinance across the County campus
- Assists County departments with planning, outreach, and policy research on projects related to natural resources
- Recommends hires and promotions, directs, and evaluates employment decisions for all assigned positions
- Supervises the care and maintenance of lawns, shrubbery, flower gardens, trees, roads and parking lots including campus snow removal
- Requisitions materials, supplies, and equipment used in grounds maintenance
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
- Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Natural Resources or related field
- Five (5) years of experience in the management of natural resources and regulatory requirements pertaining to stormwater management, erosion control, and natural areas
- One (1) year of supervisory or lead worker experience
- Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois Driver’s License
