What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian- Crisis Recovery Center position at DuPage County Health Department?
We are hiring a Custodian for our new Crisis Recovery Center located in Wheaton, with a start date on June 2, 20205. In this role you will be responsible for cleaning services and less complex maintenance tasks at our new state of the art facility. You will also be required to follow proper cleaning and maintenance techniques and to safely operate heavy-duty floor and carpet care equipment, power tools and general hand tools.
The hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:30 pm to 10:00 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Cleaning and Sanitizing:
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, office space, restrooms, hallways, lobbies, waiting areas, and other common areas.
- Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass partitions.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and countertops.
- Empty trash and biohazard waste receptacles and dispose of according to established procedures.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches).
- Transport soiled linens and dispose of them properly.
- Ensure proper storage and organization of cleaning supplies and equipment.

Maintenance:
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs, unclogging sinks, and reporting any maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and buffers.
- Ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors by maintaining a clean and hazard-free environment.
- Adhere to health and safety standards
- Other Duties:
- Assist with the distribution and storage of supplies.
- Clean and organize janitor closets.
- Respond promptly to spills, emergencies, or urgent cleaning requests.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and request restocking.
- Operates powered cleaning equipment such as an auto scrubber, buffing machine, carpet extractor, wet/dry vacuum, etc.
- Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to patient privacy laws.
- Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality.
- Maintains required training, licensure, and/or certification as well as participates in Emergency Response activities as assigned.
- Shows sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.
Two years of experience performing commercial cleaning in a healthcare or hospital TYPE setting and custodial duties which included operating cleaning equipment and completing less complex maintenance tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. This position does not require a valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), however if you have one, it may be utilized to drive vehicles regulated by the Department of Transportation.
