Position Summary

  • 12-month Administrator assigned to Glenbard East

Qualifications

  • Prior experience of at least five years in secondary classroom teaching and three years administrative experience; experience with athletics and IHSA guidelines preferred
  • Dynamic leadership qualities that building strong relationships with students and staff
  • Clear communication skills (both written and oral)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

STANDARD #1: Living a Mission and Vision Focused on Results

The assistant principal works with the staff and community to build a shared mission, and vision of high expectations that ensure all students are on the path to college and career readiness and hold staff accountable for results.

  • Develop and implement a mission statement for the department.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Assistant Athletic Director and classroom teachers.
  • Provide an environment that will empower and inspire our students to build teamwork, work ethic and the commitment necessary to be successful life-long learners.
  • Inspire and empower all students to have the opportunity to experience success through participation.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the principal.

STANDARD #2: Leading and Managing Systems Change

The assistant principal creates and implements systems to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive environment for student and adult learning for the purpose of achieving school and district improvement targets.

  • Administer and supervise the building's total interscholastic athletic program.
  • Supervise the scheduling of contests and practice sessions.
  • Generate data and information regarding participation levels of athletic programs and analyze data to recommend change.
  • Arrange and supervise schedule with the assistant athletic director and site supervisors.
  • Secure and supervise crowd control, ticket sales, medical assistance, officials, transportation, score table personnel, and other needs for home and away contests.
  • Insure that supplies and equipment are ordered in accordance with established District procedures and supervise the distribution, collection, maintenance, and inventory of equipment.
  • Insure that fiscal receipts and disbursements are made in accordance with established District procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with IHSA and conference rules.
  • Supervise preparation of insurance, health, eligibility, statistical, and other necessary records for athletes.
  • Distribute and maintain detailed records of athletic awards issued by the school.
  • Coordinate the supervision of all indoor and outdoor facilities, while establishing appropriate practices and procedures to safeguard the health and safety of athletes.

STANDARD #3: Improving Teaching and Learning

The assistant principal works with the school staff and community to develop a research-based framework for effective teaching and learning that is refined continuously to improve instruction for all students.

  • Develop and supervise a comprehensive evaluation program for the Athletic Department that utilizes research-based best practices of instruction that impact student achievement.
  • Participate in the implementation of a comprehensive evaluation program for all teachers.
  • Coordinate the selection and assignment of the coaching staff with the building principal.
  • Develop and supervise staff development programs that focus on student outcomes.
  • Prepare, administer, and distribute a handbook for athletic coaches with bi-annual review and possible revisions.
  • Assist with student growth as measured by national, state, and local academic data.

STANDARD #4: Building and Maintaining Collaborative Relationships

The assistant principal creates a collaborative school community where the school staff, students, families, and community interact regularly and share ownership for the success of the school.

  • Perform public relations activities such as cooperating with Booster Clubs, local media, and other entities.
  • Coordinate the implementation of summer camps.

STANDARD #5: Leading with Integrity and Professionalism

The assistant principal works with the school staff and community to create a positive learning environment by ensuring equity, fulfilling professional responsibilities with honesty and integrity, and modeling professional behavior.

  • Develop relationships to provide opportunities for more minority coaches.
  • Commit to review and implement the Athletic Strategic Plan.
  • Commit to building opportunities for minority student participation as part of the district goals for closing achievement gaps.

STANDARD #6: Creating and Sustaining a Culture of High Expectations

The assistant principal works with staff and community to build a culture of high expectations and aspirations for every student by setting clear staff and student expectations for positive learning behaviors and by focusing on student's social-emotional learning.

  • Develop a systematic program improvement plan that follows the District 87 Board Approved Beliefs and Guidelines.
  • Ensure uniform and proper enforcement of The Glenbard District 87 Athletic Code.
  • Represent the school, District 87, and the conference at local, state and national conferences.

  • Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and School Board policies

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. In addition, the ability to withstand long-term use of video display terminals (VDT) is required.
  • The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds such as reference books.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • The pace of work tasks would be considered as fast.
  • Work is usually conducted at one job site, however, on occasion, this employee will be required to attend meetings, conferences, or workshops and events at other sites as assigned.
