Title: TEACHER AIDE (ENGLISH)
Reports To: Department Chair
Duration: 10 Months
Purpose Statement
The job of Teacher Aide (English) is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within the Writing Center or English Resource with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students.
Essential Functions
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, listen to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, provide spelling practice, facilitate activities, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
Communicates with teachers for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student needs in both reading and writing.
Creates flyers, ads and social media posts (e.g. twitter, emails, etc.) for the purpose of advertising and encouraging students to utilize the Writing Center for all subjects.
Diagnoses writing/reading struggles and weaknesses for the purpose of providing necessary guidance.
Instructs and holds conferences in deficiencies in reading and writing in an RtI capacity for the purpose of formative feedback to students for improvement.
Offers additional instruction within the writing process in small and large assignments (e.g. the Research Paper unit, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
Other Functions
Assists the English department (e.g. barcoding books, sorting books, shredding tests, etc.) for the purpose of completing ongoing projects and housekeeping tasks.
Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
Creates and maintains logs manually or in Powerschool for the purpose of tracking students progress and attendance in the Writing Center/ English Resource.
Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, field trips, etc.)
for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications, i.e. turnitin.com database, Mastery Manager, PowerSchool; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: knowledge of English language, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others. Problem solving is required to identify issues. Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 35% walking, and 60% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Education High school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses Educator License with Stipulations – Paraprofessional endorsement or higher
English endorsement preferred
