What are the responsibilities and job description for the Radio Technician 1 - PART TIME position at DUPAGE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS?
Position Summary:
This is an in-person position. Hours are Part-Time, weekdays, less than 20 hours per week, scheduled based on operational need.
The primary responsibility of the Technician is to assist in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of DU-COMM systems including: two-way radio, telephone, microwave, network transport, control, power, alarm, and others at DU-COMM facilities. Provide first-tier support on all systems within the DU-COMM 9-1-1 communication center and radio tower sites. Basic knowledge of facility management: electrical, HVAC, networks, plumbing, and property management is a plus. The Technician must be able to determine the extent of the problem and address in-house, or escalate to a vendor. Additionally, a successful candidate must be able to communicate the issue and the resolution timeline with DU-COMM staff and member agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Two (2) years of experience in radio/microwave/telephone/electronic repair technical position or associate degree in Engineering/Technology field.
- A combination of educational achievement and experience, directly related to the position, may be considered by DU-COMM in the application of these minimum qualifications.
- Must be able to successfully pass a thorough background investigation, psychological exam, pre-hire medical exam/screenings, and drug screening.
Special Requirements:
- Requires occasional early morning or evening hours related to planned maintenance of systems.
- May perform duties outside of normal office hours to respond to DU-COMM during an emergency.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor degree in Engineering/Technology field.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in radio/microwave/telephone technical position.
- FCC General Class Radio Telephone License (GROL).
- Amateur Radio Extra class license.
- Knowledge of two-way radio communication including antennas, microwave and multiplex systems.
- Knowledge of solid-state electronics, the operational design of circuits, and electronic testing equipment.
- Knowledge of R56 grounding standards for radio systems.
- Knowledge of closed circuit surveillance, monitoring, and security systems.
- Knowledge, maintenance, and testing of telephone systems including, PBX, VoIP, T1s, and P2P.
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts, devices, and security in a TCP/IP configuration.
- Previous experience in a public safety environment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
THIS IS AN IN-PERSON POSITION, REMOTE WORK IS NOT AN OPTION.
- The position involves considerable and frequent physical exertion, including but not limited to; lifting objects up to 80 pounds, lifting reasonably weighted items to a height above 6 feet to install or move - including while on a ladder, assuming awkward positions for long periods of time, walking or standing 6 to 7 hours, climbing ladders, and climbing up to seven (7) flights of stairs.
- Must be able to differentiate color coded displays and discern visual images on a variety of media.
- Must be able to work under stressful situations, have good cognitive skills, maintain work accuracy, and the ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time.
- Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.
- Must be able to speak and communicate clearly over telephones and radios.
