Job Description
POSITION: Library Media Specialist (part-time)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- NH Certification in Library Media Specialist #0036
- Familiarity with services and programs
- Experience in providing library services at the grade K-6 levels
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide a full spectrum of educational materials so each student in the district will find available instructional and enrichment materials appropriate to his/her interests, abilities and level of maturity.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a functional school library program in the school.
- Maintains common library procedures that will standardize the operation of libraries throughout the district.
- Consults on the selection and acquisition of books and materials for the school’s basic collection.
- Conducts on-going reviews of the collection in the school and attempts to balance it according to the school needs.
- Keeps current on all types of educational materials in electronic as well as print media, and remains up-to-date on trends and practices regarding their use.
- Plans and conducts in-service education sessions for teachers.
- Aids in the care and operation of equipment as well as in the production of audio/visual materials.
- Works with other library/media specialists in the SAU to recommend to the superintendent specific long-range plans for up-grading library services in the schools.
- Participates in professional library and educational organizations.
- Prepares and administers the library budget in conjunction with the building principal.
- Promotes the use of print, electronic and other non-print resources throughout the school.
- Organizes the storage and handling of the materials for convenience, availability and effective use.
- Keeps administrator informed of the needs and services related to the library program.
- Serves as the resource person in matters concerning educational equipment, instructional materials and library materials and their use in the school instructional programs.
- Collaborates with teachers providing indices and bibliographies of educational materials and assists them in selecting appropriate materials.
- Conducts yearly inventory of equipment and materials.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Jackson Contracted Personnel contract
WORK YEAR: school year position
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Jackson School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel. The principal and/or administrative designee will be the evaluator.
