GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under general supervision, installs, maintains, troubleshoots and upgrades computer hardware, software, personal computer networks, peripheral equipment and County-wide electronic mail systems; assesses user training needs and trains users in effective use of applications; Prepares documentation and provides user assistance to County staff and performs related work as required. Works with DSS with hardware/software acquisitions. acts as Security Officer to ensure all users have appropriate access to job-relate programs; run DSS security reports; performs related work as required.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Acts as a technical resource in assisting users to resolve problems with equipment and data; staffs a centralized help desk to facilitate exchange of information and advice; Helps users in resolving problems. Installs, configures and upgrades operating systems and software, using standard business and administrative packages; may modify specific applications for use in operational departments. Installs, assembles and configures computers, monitors, network infrastructure and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware; pulls cables and rewires or directs the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration. Troubleshoots problems with computer systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software, e-mail, network and peripheral equipment problems; makes repairs and corrections where required. Assists in instructing County employees in the use of standard business and administrative software, including word processing, spreadsheets and database management; provides instruction or written documentation where required. Able to work with Windows 10 and 11 operating systems. Add, Delete, or Modify NCFast access. Submit e-IRAAF for state applications Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Get quotes on computer hardware and software products.

Makes hardware and software acquisition recommendations including helping users assess needs and providing justification for equipment and services.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Associates Degree in Information Technology; supplemented by vocational/technical training in computers; supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving computer operation and repair; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid N. C. driver's license. In accordance with the county’s drug free workplace policy, employees will be subject to pre-employment and random drug screening.
