GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Library Assistant II assists with the daily operations of the library, coordinates and manages Resource Sharing procedures, provides customer service to patrons, answers genealogy questions and catalogues the adult library collection. Additionally, promotes the general use of facilities and assists patrons in the use of collection and computers.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides regular coverage of Public Service desks at the main branch and assigned satellite branches
- Serves as coordinator/manager of Resource Sharing operations at the main library
- Answers reference questions involving resources in print and electronic formats in person, over the phone, and online
- Provides assistance in the use of computer, copier, and scanners
- Provides Reader’s Advisory in person, over the phone, and online
- Promotes in-person and online library services
- Provides assistance in use of library online services and virtual library programs
- Uses technology to meet the needs of library users
- Prepares bibliographies and suggested reading lists
- Catalogs and maintains the Audiobook/DVD collection for library system
- Leads, plans, and executes book displays or displays showcasing themes, seasons, etc.
- Performs administrative duties by preparing and analyzing statistical reports
- Participates in committees and attends training related to the job
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint to assist patrons
- May create digital content for social media platforms in promotion of the library
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to lead and work in a team setting
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Assists with Summer Reading Program
- Delivers programming in person and online
- Outreaches to schools, daycares and other organization promoting and representing Duplin Public Library
- Provides excellent customer service; assists patrons with library materials and book selections
- Conducts tours of the library including school tours and field trips
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES
- Good knowledge of library services, practices, methods and techniques
- Good knowledge of reader interests in community
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Proficient keyboarding and computer skills
- Ability to organize and plan
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff and patrons
- Physical requirements: Work requires sitting at a desk to light work in library setting, and minimal lifting and squatting for shelving activities with library materials.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Work requires broad general knowledge and computer skills. One year of experience in library or related services is preferred. Bi-lingual/Spanish is highly preferred.
- Minimum preferred: Associates Degree
The preferred candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working with children/adults in a library setting
- Supervisory experience

PHYSICAL ABILITY
