The Mechanical Systems Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of new manufacturing processes and electromechanical systems needed to deploy these processes in production. Design and development needs will range from improvements to existing manufacturing equipment to the development of new, custom-designed equipment as part of R&D. The engineer will be responsible for developing and vetting concepts, proof-of-principle designs, prototypes, and commercial-scale equipment.
Responsibilities :
Develop first-of-a-kind custom equipment including conceptualizing new processes and equipment based on business requirements
Work with operations, maintenance, safety, and engineering to design improvements to existing equipment
Create 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and bills of materials for components and assemblies
Assemble and test prototypes and manufacturing equipment in a laboratory environment
Perform engineering calculations as required for the project
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and feasibility of designs and specifications as well as adherence to applicable mechanical and safety standards
Effectively manage multiple programs with focus on meeting cost and timing commitments while maintaining high quality work
Communicate project objectives effectively, both written and verbal, to team members, plant personnel, and leadership
Develop equipment specifications and installation scopes of work
Visit vendor shops to monitor fabrication quality and witness factory acceptance tests
Provide onsite support during equipment installation and commissioning / startup
Qualifications :
BS in an Engineering discipline is required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Manufacturing Engineering
Proficiency in at least one 3D CAD modeling software package, preferably with SolidWorks
Proficiency in at least one computer programming language, preferably with C#
Minimum of 5 years of experience designing, modifying, or servicing automated process equipment
