The DuPont Corian(R) Design business is seeking a Research Investigator with experience in the synthesis, characterization, and processing of polymers and small organic molecules for the Corian® business. This position will reside in the Research and Development group supporting the Corian® business, and is located at the Yerkes Plant Site in Buffalo, New York
- Candidate should have a strong background in organic chemistry as well as in the synthesis and characterization of polymers and polymer composites.
- Familiarity with a broad range of polymers is anticipated. The ability to design experiments and communicate results is critical.
- In addition, the candidate should have a basic understanding of structure-property relationships and polymer physics and should have the knowledge to pursue routes of polymer modification as needed.
- Experience with polymer composites is highly desired.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment and have demonstrated the ability to lead program segments in order to meet team objectives.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment and/or with an operations team, particularly toward implementation of a chemistry-driven process change or new product development.
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, or related discipline.
- Recent graduate or experienced in Ph.D. Organic or Polymer Chemist.
- Fundamental understanding of organic chemistry – physical, mechanistic, and synthetic.
- Broad understanding of a variety of chain-growth and condensation polymerization systems, both in terms of reactions and kinetics.
- Experience with characterization methods for polymers including DSC, TGA, GPC, microscopy, and rheometry.
- Optional, but desirable -- interest in people leadership opportunities.
