ROLE DEFINITION
Our site in Richmond, Virginia, currently has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Assistant.
RESPONSIBILITIES DESCRIPTION
The Technical Assistant will support technical aspects of operations, quality, application development and/or research and development at the Spruance Plant for Kevlar®, Nomex®, and or Tyvek®. This includes, but is not limited to, sample make-up, tracking, testing, data collection, analysis, utilizing plant computer systems and operating semi-works machinery to support either the Operations, Manufacturing Technology, Applications Development, Quality or the Research and Development organizations. Tasks could also include support of the planning and managing of labs.
Your key responsibilities will be/what you’ll do:
Ensure that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.
Conduct tasks according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
Work with various chemicals.
Maintain, organize and summarize results of test/tasks, noting data inconsistencies and recommending actions to be taken within standard procedures.
Inspect, calibrate, verify, utilize, and maintain lab equipment and machinery used to conduct test/tasks at the designated work location.
Assist in conducting test/tasks and experiments outside of normal work area, as needed.
Maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of test/tasks and experiments at work location.
Assist and participate in the inventive process with coworkers.
Perform other duties as directed by supervision.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements:
The following skill sets are required to apply for this position:
Minimum High School Diploma/GED equivalent
Must be able to work unrestricted in the United States for Export Control
Must be able to work rotating shifts
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. and ability to learn new computer systems and software applications
Demonstrated competency in planning projects and multitasking
Willing and able to handle chemicals as required
Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hardhat, flame and arc protective clothing, protective eyewear, face shields, and respirator or SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) as required.
Willing and able to climb stairs, stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl, utilize visual acuity, reach overhead, push, pull, lift up to 55 lbs., hear and respond to alarms (with or without accommodations).
Willing and able to work overtime, including holidays, weekends, and on short notice call-in if required
The following additional skill sets are preferred by the site:
Associate of Science Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Biology or related science field.
Broad theoretical understanding in specialized or technical areas (i.e. chemistry, biology, engineering)
2 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
Experience operating pilot facilities (semiworks) equipment
Experience with or knowledge of operating lab equipment (such as: Instron universal testing machine, measuring devices, analytical equipment)
