Port Captains at Dupre Marine Transportation is a key operational position that is responsible for maintaining a healthy relationship with our customers and managing the safety performance aboard our vessels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Visit vessels to assess the safety culture and work with Management to develop initiatives to improve upon that culture.
- Schedule and/or perform internal and external safety audits, develop corrective actions, and implement these actions.
- Investigate near misses and incidents involving vessels and coordinate with management to prepare reports and initiate corrective and preventative actions.
- Evaluate the performance of vessels, develop and implement plans and initiatives to impact that performance.
- Work with management to improve upon and implement the SMS.
Job Skills
- Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Good organizational and management skills.
- Good time management skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have the ability to operate a company motor vehicle.
- Working knowledge of vessel navigation and management.
- Working knowledge of cargo transfer operation, tankerman license, DL and LG endorsements, preferred but not required.
- Ability to make decisions and exercise good judgment.
- Be knowledgeable in the areas our vessels operate including:
- LMR (Baton Rouge to New Orleans
- ICW (Corpus Christi to Pascagoula)
Qualifications
- Merchant Mariner Credential (Master of Towing)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the marine industry.
