Posting Title: Tax Associate II
Overall Purpose:
The Tax Associate is responsible for the preparation and filing of the federal and state income taxes ensuring accuracy and compliance with IRS and state regulations. This position is responsible for the quarterly tax close and related reporting tasks for the non-regulated entities. Focus of work will apply to the Company's non-regulated entities with the majority of time being spent on tax compliance and provisions.
Location: Hybrid, downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepares income tax provision calculations, records journal entries, performs account reconciliations and contributes to the year-end income tax audit
- Assists in researching tax regulations to stay current on changes in tax legislation and understand how they apply to the company
- Analyzes financial documents, such as income statements, balance sheets and journal entry details to accurately report taxable income and deductions
- Prepares income tax disclosures for internal and external reporting requirements
- Contributes to the income tax budgeting and forecasting process and related effects on net income and cash tax flow
- Prepares subsidiary Federal pro formas, Federal consolidated income tax return and related multiple state income tax returns
- Prepares and files Federal and State extensions and estimated payments
- Supports IRS and state tax audits by gathering necessary documentation and providing explanations for tax positions taken
- Utilizes tax software and other technologies to streamline the tax preparation and filing process
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field required
- 2 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with OneSource
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of state and federal taxes
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Experience with tax research tools
- Knowledge of data analytics and automation systems
- Knowledge of artificial intelligence technical skills
- Experience with PowerPlan's - Tax Provision module or other tax provisioning system
- Experience with PowerPlan's - PowerTax module or other tax fixed asset system

Scope:
Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically accountable for managing one's own time and work flow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work is typically of moderate complexity requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base and develop capabilities by partnering with more experienced staff as needed.
Decision Impact:
Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience. Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making in straightforward situations based on precedents.
Hybrid Work:
Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
Storm Roles:
All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Examples of storm roles could include but aren’t limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service, or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
