POSITIONSUMMARY :
Serving as thechief development officer for the College of Medicine and Schools of HealthSciences, Nursing and Pharmacy as well as the Center for Integrative Health at Duquesne University, the Executive Director for Advancement, Integrative Health (EDA) will provide counsel to the Deans / Director onadvancement matters, help set philanthropic strategies and organize and set theCollege / Schools / Center's philanthropic priorities in order to maximize externalsupport. The EDA will plan, lead andgrow all aspects of alumni and friend engagement, fundraising and comprehensiveAdvancement initiatives within the College / Schools / Center, with a heavyemphasis on cultivating and closing major and planned gift commitments. This will also involve the EDA working withacademic program leaders, center directors, faculty, and staff in therespective College / Schools / Center at the direction of the SVP.
The EDA willreport directly to the Senior Vice President for University Advancement (SVP)in close collaboration with the leadership of the College / Schools / Center. Thisunique relationship is designed to ensure that the EDA can fully pursuestrategic advancement goals for the College / Schools / Center while also stayingaligned with University campaigns, developments and perspectives with respectto advancement.
We expect thisunique structure will be seamless and effective given that relations betweenthe College / Schools / Center and University Advancement leadership are excellent,with a long track record of successfully partnering on advancement initiativesfor the College / Schools / Center.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Serve as amember of the University Advancement Leadership Team.
Serve as a strategic partner to theDeans / Director and SVP in the development of annual and long-term advancementstrategies and plans for the College / Schools / Center.
Identify andcultivate sources of philanthropic support through near,mid, and long-term fundraising strategies and initiatives to meet the currentand future needs of the College / Schools / Center, in collaboration withUniversity Advancement colleagues and the Deans / Director. Responsible for helping achieve thefundraising objectives of the College / Schools / Center in support of theUniversity's comprehensive fundraising campaign.
Provide strategic support to the Deans / Director in theengagement of major and planned gift prospects / donors and general alumni toadvance College / Schools / Center initiatives,centers of excellence, academic programs, career development efforts (e.g.,executive education), faculty and strategic research directions.
Directs andcoordinates all fundraising efforts for the College / Schools / Center inpartnership with the Deans / Director and SVP to develop a comprehensiveAdvancement Strategic Plan for College / Schools / Center fundraising.
Creates andnurtures a culture of philanthropy within the College / Schools / Center and amongtheir constituencies, establishing and maintaining strong and mutuallybeneficial relationships with external contacts and constituents on behalf ofthe College / Schools / Center.
Establishes and persuasivelycommunicate the funding needs and priorities of the College / Schools / Center to key stakeholders, providing leadership of annual, leadership annual,major, and planned gift cultivation and solicitation strategies as well ascorporate partnerships.
Serves as a keyliaison between the College / Schools / Center and the University divisions ofUniversity Advancement and Marketing and Communications.
Plans and execute strategic Developmentactivities, donor recognition programs, and alumni / donor engagement and recognitionevents for the College / Schools / Center in collaboration with.
College / Schools / Center leaders, including the Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Dean, Department Chairs and other staff as needed.
University Advancement, including Alumni Engagement, Major Giving, Planned Giving, Annual Giving, Conference & Events Services, and Donor Relations colleagues.
Colleagues in the office of the SVP for Civic Engagement and External Relations.
Advises andassists University Advancement frontline fundraising colleagues in theirpreparation for, execution of, and follow-up with their assignedCollege / Schools / Center donors and prospective donors.
Partners withAdvancement Research and Development Services colleagues, the Deans / Directorand other College / Schools / Center leaders to identify new prospects for futuremajor and planned gift opportunities.
Collaborate and strategize closely with the Deans / Director, SVP and centralUniversity Advancement gift officers on major and planned gift fundraisingstrategies associated with College / Schools / Center prospects / donors assigned to central staff.
Conductprospect review and strategy meetings with the Deans / Director and SVP tomaximize their and the University President's respective strategic engagementwith donors.
Coordinate andfacilitate the Dean / Director's fundraising strategies and engagements withdonors to ensure consistent communication, effective partnership, and timelyfollow-through with donors and prospective donors.
Providestrategic and operational support to the Dean / Director for the College / Schools / Center in everything related to fundraisingfor the College / Schools / Center (i.e., includes formulation / development ofstrategies and tactics related to fundraising, plus implementation / followthrough with execution). Includesalumni, foundations and / or corporations as potential fundraising targets) aswell as coordinating all activities in all phases of the fundraising cycle(discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship).
Maintain an active portfolio of up to120 (alumni and corporations) major and planned giving donors and prospectivedonors, cultivating and soliciting those assigned prospects for major and / orplanned gift commitments (gifts of $25,000 or greater), meeting quantifiableperformance metrics, including successful major and principal giftsolicitation, in doing so.
Persuasively communicate the fundingneeds and priorities of the College / Schools / Center to key stakeholders (both inside and outside of theCollege / Schools / Center / University), providing leadership of annual, leadershipannual, major, and planned gift cultivation and solicitation strategies as wellas corporate partnerships.
Collaborate / coordinate the work ofcentral University Advancement Gift Officers representing theCollege / Schools / Center; coach, counsel and partner with other gift officers whomay support College / Schools / Center fundraising goals and initiatives.
Coordinate andstrategize with the SVP for Advancement and other advancement professionalsoutside of the College / Schools / Center on fundraising targets, strategies and tactics while serving as a liaisonbetween the College / Schools / Center and Advancement; secure / coordinate specialreports, proposals, and analyses for management, including monthly financialstatements and funds distribution reports.
Travel isrequired for the position approximately 25% of the time.
Completes otherduties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Supervises work of others,including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuringquality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. May offerrecommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments, but does not haveresponsibility for making these decisions.
REQUIREMENTS :
Minimum qualifications :
Bachelor's degreein business, liberal arts or related field from an accredited institution and 8or more years of progressively responsible experience.
A minimum of 7 to 10 years successful experience in major gift and / orplanned gift development or related field, or any equivalent combination of experienceand training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required toperform the essential job function.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred qualifications :
MA, MS, MBA or other relevant degree from an accredited institution.

The EDA will be a highly-effective, exceptional fundraiser as well as arespected team leader and College / Schools / Center -widecollaborator. This is critical if the EDA is to help further the growth of the College / Schools / Center's individual and organizational philanthropyresults through strategically growing and cultivating a portfolio of major andplanned giving donors and prospects. Moreover, the EDA will work closely withthe SVP for University Advancement, Gift Officers, and volunteers to secure significantresources for the College / Schools / Center's faculty,students, and programs. Morespecifically, to be successful, the EDA will have or possess :
A high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to collaborateeffectively.
A proven track record of closing six-and seven-figure-major and plannedgifts as well as possess experience working on a comprehensive fundraisingcampaign in a complex educational setting.
A willingness and ability to travel locally and throughout the UnitedStates to meet with prospects and donors.
Demonstrated progressive experience and successful results infundraising / sales.
The ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and modify strategicadvancement plans along with the ability to effectively connect and engage andcommunicate with donors and potential donors of all levels.
Experience managing or leading a development team plus strongorganizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in adiverse community.
Effective computer and database management skills plus the ability to planand manage budgets, gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
The ability to organize resources, establish priorities and perform miscellaneousjob-related duties as assigned.
