Duties and Responsibilities
You will be trained and learn how to perform the following job duties and responsibilities:
Manage the maintenance and implementation of safety programs, compliance plans, and other safety initiatives.
- Conduct routine safety audits to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies, company environmental health and safety policies and practices.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions and acts. Monitor behavior and recommend actions as needed to reduce injuries and improve compliance.
- Maintain internal and regulatory reporting including data collection and reporting including but not limited to air, storm water and surface water discharge.
- Maintain compliance with permits, government regulations and other industry practices.
- Ensure the company meets all its legislative compliance obligations with OSHA, EPA, ADA and fire codes.
- Stay abreast of changes to OSHA, Federal & State DOT regulations to ensure the company is prepared for future compliance requirements.
- Perform investigations at the plant level as needed. This includes but is not limited to severe injuries and OSHA complaints. Assure all investigations are followed up with and an action plan is implemented successfully.
- Identify and eliminate hazards in the workplace.
- Exercises independent judgement and issues disciplinary action for safety violations.
- Participate in production meetings to discuss workplace safety and regulatory concerns and opportunities.
- Be able to assess injuries in the workplace and when necessary, transport injured employees to medical clinic.
- Order and maintain an inventory of necessary PPE for production workers.
- Take the lead in investigations to determine root causes of events, write summaries and recommend corrective actions. Perform follow-up on remediation as needed.
- Participate in the investigation of incidents, near misses and property damage incidents. Ensure follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and proper records/documents are maintained.
- Review and update Job Safety Analysis documents to identify and avoid work-related hazards by outlining specific work procedures required to perform each job safely and effectively.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety documents and records for assigned areas including procedure manuals, material safety data sheets, employee training records, and database of recordable incidents, near-misses and relevant investigations.
- Conduct weekly health and safety training courses for supervisors and employees.
- Coordinate activities involving outside regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, etc.
Work Environment
This position works mostly indoors in temperature-controlled environment. There are times when working outdoors under varied weather conditions is needed for walk-throughs and investigations. There could be exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving heavy equipment/machinery, and loud noise.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience Required:
- Proficient with OSHA regulations and standards.
- Exposure and knowledge of Environmental regulations a plus.
- Good communication skills.
- Achievement of OSHA 30 designation – Will have to obtain OSHA 30 within 60 days of accepting the position.
- Extensive knowledge of company processes and standards specifically as it relates to production
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products
- Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred
- Ability to be on call or work off hours as needed
