What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher - Elementary Classroom position at Durango Montessori School?
Durango Montessori School is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Elementary Classroom Assistant to support our Montessori lead teacher in fostering a nurturing, child-centered learning environment. The ideal candidate will assist in maintaining a peaceful and organized classroom, support children's independent learning, and help uphold the Montessori philosophy of education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Teacher in creating a prepared Montessori environment
- Develop positive relationships with the children and their parents
- Observe and document children's interest and progress and share with the Lead teacher
- Provide a safe, nurturing learning environment
- Supervise groups of children during inside and outside activities
- Reads and abides by the policies and procedures of Durango Montessori School
- Assists in duties beyond the classroom as requested by the Director
- Attend informational sessions, and open houses, conduct conferences, monitor recess, and any morning or afternoon duty assigned
- Care about equity, diversity, and social and environmental justice
Classroom Duties:
- Work with the lead teacher to monitor the class schedule
- Assist lead teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment promptly
- Observe lessons from the Lead Teacher and reteach lessons to students as needed
- Monitor and manage classroom behavior in a soft, mindful manner
- Ensure the classroom environment is prepared, safe and clean
- Oversee students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, during lunch, and on field trips
Qualifications:
- Be willing to become certified in CPR and First Aid
- Be willing to complete required online training within the first 3 months of school start date
- Exhibit a high degree of motivation, initiative and kindness and the ability to work well with others
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
- An understanding and interest in child development and experiential learning
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28,000.00 - $32,000.00 per year
