Durango Montessori School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Physical Education (PE) Teacher to develop and lead engaging movement-based activities that align with Montessori principles. The ideal candidate will foster a love of physical activity, support the development of gross motor skills, and encourage teamwork, coordination, and self-confidence in students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate physical education lessons for children of varying ages
- Integrate Montessori principles by encouraging independence, cooperation, and self-directed movement
- Foster a positive, non-competitive environment where all students feel encouraged to participate
- Teach a variety of physical activities, including racquetball, soccer, basketball, football etc.
- Guide children in understanding body awareness, balance, coordination, and healthy living
- Ensure a safe and inclusive environment, adapting activities to meet the needs of all students
- Organize and maintain physical education equipment and materials
- Support classroom teachers in incorporating movement-based learning
- Communicate with staff and families about student progress and participation
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events as needed
Qualifications:
- Passion for working with children and promoting lifelong physical wellness
- Experience teaching physical education or movement-based activities in a school or community setting
- Understanding of child development and a commitment to Montessori education principles
- Strong communication skills, leadership, and classroom management skills
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Background knowledge and experience in Physical Education skills pertaining to ages 5-12
