Position Overview:
Working in partnership with classroom lead teachers, the Reading Interventionist provides individualized instruction and small-group lessons for children who benefit from additional literacy support.
The ideal candidate has experience with evidence-based reading intervention strategies and is committed to working collaboratively within the Montessori framework to support student success.
The Reading Interventionist serves as a bridge between evidence-based reading practices and the child-centered Montessori environment — helping to foster not only reading proficiency, but also a lifelong love of learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted reading intervention for students who are developing foundational literacy skills
- Use research-based strategies for teaching phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, comprehension, and writing
- Create individualized learning plans based on student needs and progress
- Work with students 1:1 or in small groups during the school day
- Collaborate with classroom lead teachers to align support with Montessori practices
- Communicate with lead teachers regarding student progress and strategies for support at home
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments, progress monitoring, and session notes
- Attend student support meetings and collaborate with other educators and specialists
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Training or certification in reading intervention strategies (such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or other structured literacy approaches) preferred
- Experience working with children with reading challenges
- Understanding of child development and a respectful, Montessori-aligned approach to student support
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team
