Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for a Custodial Manager. Position includes benefits and begins April 1 or sooner if selected candidate is available to start sooner. During the school year when students are in session, this position works a day shift on Monday and an evening shift on Tuesday through Friday. During the summer months when school is not in sessions, this a day shift position Monday through Friday.
SUMMARY Assist the Custodial Supervisor to direct the work of custodial staff. Ensure standards of cleanliness, sanitation, minor maintenance of grounds, safety, and security are met. Ensure a safe and pleasant learning environment for students, staff, and the public. Order supplies and initiate custodial maintenance work orders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Inspect buildings and grounds daily for a high level of cleanliness and safety; look for fire hazards, grounds and custodial maintenance needs. Report maintenance needs to the Facilities Department using online systems. Assist in maintaining building security.
- Assist the Custodial Supervisor in the hiring processes for custodial staff. Assist with training, observation, evaluation and, if needed, corrective action steps for custodial staff.
- Train custodial staff in emergency shut offs and control valve locations and proper operation of the device. Train custodial staff in the proper use of equipment needed to perform their custodial duties.
- Assist with organizing and directing custodial coverage for activities and keep records of time required for business office billing.
- Track and maintain orders, inventories, and deliveries needed for custodial services. Ensure proper storage of custodial supplies and documentation of material safety data sheet information.
- Assist maintenance personnel in maintaining properties. Initiate work orders in the work order platform (FMX) for building, equipment, and grounds maintenance needs to the Facilities Department.
- Communicate with administrators/supervisors and other building staff, students, and community to ensure and promote a clean, healthy, and efficiently operating facility. When needed, respond quickly to cleaning requests as well as emergency spills and accidents.
- When needed, perform and maintain housekeeping throughout building and grounds to ensure high standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Assist with seasonal snow removal as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING High school diploma or equivalent. Training and experience in leadership and supervision of employees preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 5 years of experience in custodial work. Previous leadership and supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of budgets, inventory and equipment maintenance.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS Valid Colorado driver’s license. Safety and asbestos training required within 3 months after entering a position. CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire and required within three months of hire. Criminal Background Check required for hire.

- Ability to acquire skills necessary to operate several types of cleaning equipment and snow removal equipment.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
- Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.
- Operating knowledge of custodial methods and procedures.
- Operating knowledge of basic custodial equipment.

Reports to: Custodial Supervisor
Direct Reports: This job helps direct custodians' work under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor; provides assistance with the selection and evaluation of custodians.
