Reports To: AHR Chief Mechanical Officer / D&SNGRR General Mechanical Foreman 

Type of position: Salary

Employee Classification: Full Time/Regular

Location: Based in Durango, CO with frequent travel

Pay: $65,000-$75,000/year DOE

Job Summary: The Contract Foreman’s primary purpose is to oversee D&S contract projects. This position will help lead the personnel and resources to carry out outside contract work. This position will also work closely with the AHR CMO and D&S GMF to provide input and recommendations towards the long-term planning and soliciting of contract projects. The Contract Foreman will be very active in the direct supervising and scheduling of the contract maintenance team. Candidates should have a working knowledge of various types of locomotive and rolling stock and the unique repair practices required to maintain them.

The ideal candidate will be able to effectively communicate, lead, and schedule the D&SNG contract work to staff and customers within a safe and productive work environment. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring accurate cost estimations, resource allocation, and adherence to financial constraints while determining project scope and specifications.
  • Work with General Mechanical Foreman to schedule in work on contract projects within the D&SNG workflow.
  • Lead, coordinate and direct multi-month projects ensuring timely completion.
  • Create and foster positive industry relationships to aid in the company’s goal of attracting new clients.
  • Regular and effective communication with current clients regarding project status and needs.
  • Ensure that all work is within compliance with required regulations. 
  • Work to consistently maintain proper paperwork and documentation.
  • Help to create and maintain a safe work environment that adheres to all regulations and company policies and procedures. 
  • Work alongside staff in a hands-on role towards the completion of scheduled work.
  • Active participation in tracking project hours and invoicing clients.
  • Work with Purchasing Department on pricing of parts and supplies.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and cooperate with other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English.
  • Possess leadership and project management skills.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a variety of projects.
  • Must interact effectively with clients, co-workers, vendors and sub-contractors.
  • Prior experience managing a workforce in an industrial setting is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and understand how different regulations apply to each project
  • Must have a working knowledge of locomotive repair, and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to effectively understand and direct work in various trades including welding and machining.
  • Must be able to pass D&SNG pre-employment and ongoing physical capabilities exams.
  • Must be able to pass D&SNG pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and random drug tests.
  • Must have a current Driver’s License and maintain a valid MVR.
  • Must possess a current Passport for international travel
  • Must have ability to operate heavy equipment such as loader, forklift, and tractor. 
  • Must have computer skills to effectively maintain digital records, produce documents and communicate in Word, Excel, and Teams at a minimum. 

Work Conditions:

  • Work primarily in railroad environments with periods of office work.
  • Frequent travel in North America, up to 25% a year.
  • Full-time, minimum 40 hours per week schedule.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that could include evenings and weekends.
  • Extended periods of time walking or standing.
  • Regular lifting in excess of 50 pounds.  


Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
