Job Title: Railroad Carman I
Reports To: Assistant Car Shop Foreman/ Car Shop Foreman
Type of position: Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Employee Classification: Full Time/Regular Classification
Pay Range: $20-$25/hr. DOE
Location: Durango, CO
Job Summary: The Railroad Carman is responsible for inspecting and repairing rolling stock- specifically wheels, trucks,
couplers, draft gears, brakes, brake rigging, and other related equipment. When requested, the Railroad Carman may
also assist Carpenters and Painters in their related work assignments.

Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform daily and regularly scheduled maintenance/repairs on rail cars
- Retain accurate records for completed work in order to ensure adherence to maintenance schedules
- Assist in regular repairs to railroad buildings and facilities, when needed
- Operate equipment in and around the Car Shop to facilitate ease of access
- Other duties as assigned
Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Driver's License
- Must pass a preemployment drug test and Physical Capabilities Evaluation
- Mechanical skills and aptitude with experience and ability to use shop tools (air-operated jacks, impact wrenches, grinders, etc.)
- Familiarity with railroad equipment, welders and air brake systems preferred
- Experience operating forklifts, carry deck, tractor and other equipment helpful
- Ability & desire to perform physically demanding work within a varying work schedule
Work Environment:
- Working in and around rail yard and within industrial shop environment
- Varied schedule sometimes requiring full-time hours with overtime work, as needed
- Crawling under coaches, working in confined spaces and working on ladders/scaffolding
- Lifting, bending, crawling, crouching under rail cars and around shop
Salary : $20 - $25
