Log Yard Manager

Job Summary:

The Log Yard Manger works in the log yard at our facility in Springfield, NH. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Yard Manager to oversee the daily operations of our yard and ensure efficient management of transportation and inventory processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of logistics, and the ability to manage a team effectively. This role is crucial for maintaining optimal workflow and ensuring that all yard activities are conducted safely and efficiently. The hours and days of operation are Monday through Friday 6:00 am – 4:30 pm, occasional Saturdays, however hours may vary based on production needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• The Log Yard Manger will oversee scaling of lumber to evaluate the quality of the wood, and measure logs to find their dimensions.
• Managing on site trucking of incoming logs and corresponding equipment and employees. This position reports to the company Forester.
• Verifying the accuracy of data
• General clean-up surrounding area of the log yard and equipment
• Operate various heavy equipment in the yard including a crane & loader
• Monitor equipment usage, including forklifts, to ensure proper maintenance and safety standards.
• Managing the daily workflow of production
• Work along with the Forrester to manage the log yard staff
• Coordinate with other departments to facilitate smooth operations and resolve any logistical issues.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices within the yard environment.
• Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) (Preferred)
• 5 years’ experience scaling and operating equipment in a log yard (Preferred)
• 2 years' of management experience (preferred)

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting for extended periods while operating equipment on varying surfaces
• Climbing up and down from cab heights with ease multiple times per hour
• Occasional lifting, pulling, or pushing up to 75 pounds
• Continuous walking or standing
• Climbing ladders and working in elevated positions following company safety procedures
• Bending, squatting, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting items above the shoulders
• Ability to move levers, shift gears, depress pedals, and maneuver the steering wheel to operate equipment

Work Environment:

• Outdoors in varying temperatures and all-weather conditions
• Walking on slippery or uneven surfaces from time to time
• Hearing protection is required in certain areas of the facility
• Buildings and grounds are non-smoking except in designated smoking area
