Durham Academy is accepting applications for an Upper School Technical Theatre Director/Teacher to begin August 1, 2025. Candidates should have some successful experience teaching or working with students. All candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or a related field; master’s degree or commensurate experience preferred. Our ideal candidate will feel comfortable assuming the following roles:

Responsibilities Include:
  • Teacher for 1-2 sections of Technical Theatre
  • Scenic/Lighting Designer and Technical Director for US Performing Arts
    • Theatre: Fall Play and Winter Musical
    • Dance: Winter and Spring concerts
    • Music: In The Pocket (3 shows), Ensembles (Winter & Spring concerts), A Cappella Jam
  • Recruiter/teacher/supervisor for student technical crew
  • Technical Director for Kenan Auditorium/Scene Shop
  • Upper School community programming Technical Support

Our School
Founded in 1933, Durham Academy is an all-gender, independent day school with 1,252 students in Pre-kindergarten through grade 12 on three campuses.
