RESPONSIBILITIES :

This position is based in the Employee Retention Unit within the Department of Social Services. The Senior Staff Development Specialist is responsible for the planning, coordination, facilitation, and communication of training programs across the agency. As the lead trainer for DSS-specific and soft skills training, the incumbent will oversee the development and implementation of training plans and course content to ensure alignment with county and agency objectives. The role involves regular communication with programs to provide updates on changes in training policies or practices, ensuring all staff are informed of any developments. The Senior Staff Development Specialist will also design and deliver engaging training programs and resources, while managing external training partnerships and utilizing the most effective instructional methods and media. Additionally, the position includes evaluating training effectiveness to optimize return on investment (ROI), through ongoing monitoring and auditing of both internal and external training activities. The incumbent will provide leadership and guidance in areas such as curriculum development, team building, program support, inter-organizational collaboration, material distribution, and evaluation. Furthermore, the Senior Staff Development Specialist will serve as the primary facilitator for the Department of Social Services’ internal Leadership Development Academy.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

In-depth knowledge of training theory, principles, and methodologies.

Proficient in interpreting, applying, and clearly communicating various policies, procedures, and regulations.

Strong ability to assess training needs, develop objectives, recommend goals, and evaluate student performance with sound judgment.

Expertise in designing comprehensive course outlines and detailed lesson plans.

Highly adaptable in communicating complex information to diverse audiences in various contexts.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a polished presentation style.

Skilled in counseling and building rapport with individuals at all levels.

Proficient in coaching and mentoring individuals for leadership development.

Competent in assessing and delivering training on effective communication and conflict resolution strategies.

Strong decision-making and strategic thinking abilities.

Expertise in emotional intelligence and its application in professional settings.

Skilled in delivering blended learning experiences across online, in-person, and hybrid environments

REQUIREMENTS :

Requires an Bachelor’s degree supplemented by two (2) to four (4) years of responsible experience human services program, counseling or training or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

PREFFRED :

Previous experience in training and development, organizational development, counseling, or human resources is preferred. Additionally, exposure to, certification in, and the ability to train in the following areas are highly desirable :

  • Team Building
  • DISC Assessment
  • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)"

Salary : $55,366 - $77,000
