Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an adjunct instructor of Allied Health in the Health and Wellness Department. The essential functions of the position of an Allied Health instructor encompass a variety of responsibilities aimed at delivering quality education in specific healthcare areas such as Phlebotomy, EKG / ECG, Patient Care Technician, or Central Sterile Processing. The instructor is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, possess relevant healthcare experience, and exhibit excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Examples of Duties
- Instructor will be responsible for teaching the theory and practice of one of the following areas :
Phlebotomy
EKG / ECGPatient Care TechnicianCentral Sterile Processing.The instructor must have an interest and experience in the education specifically, in the Healthcare field. Must be reliable, punctual, organized, submission of paperwork timely and have ability to juggle multiple priorities in a very busy educational / training department with excellent interpersonal skills.Maintain student attendance roster and other paperwork associated with the course.Evaluate student performance and maintain performance records in file to include grading of skills performances.Coordinate student clinical experience at the affiliate site and be present during the clinical rotation.Evaluate student performance in clinical and maintain records.Successfully demonstrate techniques on student to student and volunteers.Attend non-paid staff meetings as needed.Complete appropriate forms for field trips, guest speakers, and requests for substitute and submit to Director 3 days prior to the event.Complete and submit lesson plans to Director prior to instruction.Arrive at least 15 minutes early to ensure you are properly prepared for class.Communicate with Director regarding supply needs for the course.Maintain records for student performances. Provide weekly updates to students and place weekly performance records in each student's file.Talk with interested student who want to know more details about the class.Work directly with the Director and Clinical Coordinator, or Dean to analyze training needs.Keep the Director and Clinical Coordinator well informed of program activities.At all times represent the College and the Health and Wellness Department in a positive and professional manner.All responsibilities and requirements stated are essential job functions. Associate degree and credential(s) in Program Specialty (minimum requirement is dependent on program) in at least one of the following areas :
PhlebotomyEKG / ECGPatient Care TechnicianCentral Sterile ProcessingWork Experience :
5 years of work experience required (in program profession)

Normal working hours for this position will vary at 7-14 hours per week. Specific work hours are to be determined by the scheduled class hours and by consultation with the supervisor. Hours are not guaranteed but are based on student enrollment and faculty needs.
