Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring an Executive Director in the Information Technology Services Department. The Executive Director, Information Technology Services is responsible for providing leadership and management of the Information Technology Services department and is responsible for the planning, management, security, and coordination of the technology resources of the College. This includes information technology policy, planning and budget management, information systems deployment and management, centralized IT procurement, information security, and IT services. The Executive Director plays a key role in supporting strategic technology initiatives in support of the College’s institutional goals.
Examples of Duties
- Manages all IT Services, staff and operations, including the enterprise applications, network infrastructure, telecommunications, client services, classroom technology, office systems and help desk;
- Provides oversight of information security policies, procedures, practices and compliance with federal and state regulations;
- Manages the implementation of campus-wide information systems;
- Coordinates all projects related to selection, acquisition, development and installation of major strategic and operational information systems for the campus. Evaluates systems to measure their success;
- Reviews all hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts, soliciting involvement and participation of other management team members as appropriate;
- Develops and maintains policies and standards aimed at maximizing effectiveness and minimizing costs related to the acquisition, implementation and operation of IT systems;
- Develops and monitors the approved annual operating and capital budgets for information technology systems;
- Maintains contact with IT suppliers and maintains knowledge of current technology, equipment, prices and terms of agreements to minimize the investment required to meet established service levels. Evaluates alternatives, performs appropriate cost benefit analysis, and recommends solutions that maximize effectiveness and minimize costs commensurate with acceptable risks;
- Responsible for the technology vision and planning process that will regularly evaluate existing technology, information systems, and staffing, research new solutions and technologies and recommend changes;
- Develops and maintains system recovery plan in the event of power failure, damage to system, etc.;
- Oversees the development, maintenance, and communication of systems documentation, policies, and procedures;
- Communicates ITS plans, policies and technology trends throughout the College with administrators, faculty and staff as well as well as internal department and external partners;
- Serves as liaison to North Carolina Community College System Office in regard to campus technology;
- Provides ongoing performance management, training and growth opportunities for all Information Technology Services staff;
- Performs other duties as assigned by Vice President, Chief Campus Operations Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree with an advanced degree preferred. Recommended disciplines include Information Technology, Business Administration, project management (certification), or related fields.
Work Experience
This position requires a minimum of five years of leadership and management experience in information technology services with increasing levels of responsibility.

Normal Working Hours
A minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours. Summer schedules may vary to enable four-day or four-and-one-half-day work weeks.
