What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Van Driver - 2.5hrs/day position at Durham Unified School District?
Under supervision of the Maintenance, Operations and Transportation Manager drives a passenger car/van over designated routes for the purpose of transporting students and others to and from school program sites. A passenger car/van does not require the operator to possess a School Bus Driver Certificate or Commercial Driver's License.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
- Operates a car/van within prescribed route(s) in accordance with the time schedules; pick up and drop off students at designated stops.
- May transport special education students; escort and assist students in and out of cars/vans when necessary; secure seat belts.
- Obeys and follows all student transportation rules and regulations as outlined by the District.
- Recognizes problems which may interfere with the welfare of students and implements appropriate solutions; maintains order and proper discipline of student passengers according to policy; ensures safety of passengers.
- Administers first aid and/or CPR as authorized under current standard certification as necessary.
- Reports needed mechanical concerns promptly. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge Of:
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices in the area of student transportation.
- Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in transporting school children.
- CPR and First Aid principles and practices. Safe driving principles and practices.
Ability To:
- Operate a car/van with safety as a primary consideration.
- Maintain order and discipline in a car/van.
- Follow routes and schedules.
- Follow oral and written directions.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Administer first aid and CPR.
- Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in response to changing situations.
- Use courtesy and good judgment in answering questions from school personnel and parents.
- Withstand exposure to wide range of temperatures cold and heat. Strength to stoop, twist and lift up to 50 lbs.
Experience:
- Two years of experience in the operation of a motor vehicle and a continuous good driving record. Experience driving a van and working with children is highly desirable.
Education:
- High School Diploma or California High School Proficiency Exam certificate.
License And Certificates:
- Must possess a current appropriate, valid California's Class C driver's license.
- Possession of current certification in First Aid and CPR.
