School Bus Driver (Part-time) at Durham Unified School District

Job Overview:

Drive Electric our Diesel school bus for morning and afternoon routes with possibility of additional time for sporting events. Under supervision of the Superintendent or Designee operate a school bus over designated routes to transport school children; and such other duties as may be assigned if within the usual scope of this employment.

Examples of Duties:

-Drives a bus daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging school children.

-Escorts children across streets, stopping traffic as necessary.

-Transports children, teachers and adults on field trips to various locations sometimes choosing the best route and making departure and arrival time as scheduled.

-Assists in maintaining the bus, inside and outside, in clean and safe operating condition.

-Maintains student lists and checks bus passes.

-Performs other such duties as assigned.

Desirable Qualifications:

-Knowledge of:

• Safe Driving practices
• Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in transporting school children.
• First aid and accident prevention

-Ability to:

• Drive school buses of all sizes, and other automotive equipment efficiently, with safety as primary consideration.
• Maintain order among children on a school bus.
• Follow oral and written directions.
• Follow routes and schedules.
• Detect mechanical defects.
• Use courtesy and good judgement in answering questions from school personnel and parents.

License:

-A California Class 3 drivers license and required certificates (medical certificate and first aid exam).

-A California special driving certificate

Experience:

-Six Months of experience as a school bus driver.

-Experience waived in case of student bus drivers duly certified by the superintendent. Willing to train the right person.

Education:

-Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, and successful completion of the examination for school bus drivers administrated by the California Highway Patrol.
