The first step is the development and mass-production of our own drilling rigs with automated controls and real-time data streams to increase saftey, accuracy, and efficiency. Learn more Automating the Rig We are hiring an automation & controls engineer to design and optimize systems for our proprietary exploration drilling rigs, integrating sensors, actuators, and control algorithms. You will rapidly design, prototype, and iterate on hardware, collaborating closely with mechanical and robotics engineers, testing systems in the field daily or weekly. Note : You don't need mining or drilling experience to excel in this role. Responsibilities Simulate and design control systems for autonomous drilling operations and supporting processes such as material handling, drill segment connection, and core sample retrieval Develop a rugged instrumentation suite (pressure, force, position, temperature) for real-time data acquisition and control of deployed rigs Determine actuation strategy and control algorithms for the rig and its supporting robots Perform testing, troubleshooting, and validation of systems in lab and field environments Competencies Comfortable building industrial control software (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Allen-Bradley) and programming languages such as ROS2, C , and Python Strong grasp of control algorithms (e.g. PID, LQR), signal conditioning, and sensor fusion to measure and control process variables Industrial communication standards (e.g., EtherCAT, EtherNet / IP) and wireless connectivity solutions Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment to rapidly prototype and deploy new systems Experience with field testing and working in rugged environments In this role, you will Own a product vertical with the opportunity to build a team around yourself over time Work directly with our internal and external customers to drive our roadmap Get to build alongside the best engineers and mining operators in the world Be given autonomy and virtually unlimited room to grow Travel all over the world This might be a good fit if you Have a bias to action, take pride in your work, and care more about getting to the right solution than being right Have led critical projects or initiatives Have extensive experience shipping modern, full-stack hardware Are product-minded and user-driven Are excited to work in a fast-paced environment with high stakes and quick iteration cycles Are a previous or future founder — if you leave Durin to start a company, we'll do everything to support you, including investing in you and introducing you to Durin's investors Can work from our Los Angeles headquarters (El Segundo) Compensation For this role everyone, including the founder, is taking a salary of $120,000 . We believe in investing every dollar back into the company to achieve our ambitious goals. While money isn't our driving motivator, we ensure you will be taken care of financially. We offer healthcare coverage (medical, dental, vision) , all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are covered when you’re at headquarters, and we can help provide housing close to the office. In addition, the headquarters is equipped with two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a high-end shower. You will be given generous equity.
