Job Description :
The role of the professional embedded manufacturing tutor is to assist students in entry-level manufacturing courses held at SUNY Dutchess main campus and Fishkill.
They are charged with assisting and providing guidance to a diverse student body with an emphasis on supporting neurodiverse students.
The tutors will assist students in class as well as via remote video conference when necessary. This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position with up to 8 hours per week.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Attend Manufacturing classes to assist students in the classroom. These classes include CNC Fundamentals, Certified Production Technician, Fundamentals of Metrology, and Certified Manufacturing Associate.
- Build a peer relationship with the students in the classes.
- Facilitate group or one-on-one sessions with students seeking help or referred by their instructor.
- Balance the needs of several students at once.
- Be familiar with the topics, teaching methods, and requirements of instructors in the particular area of learning.
- Knowledge of Zoom video conferencing.
- Work directly with faculty and inform them of the progress of their students.
- Attend professional development workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements :
Associates degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related degree. Students who have excelled in their studies are also encouraged to apply.
Ability to communicate on a one-to-one basis.
Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities;
personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and / or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.
- Experience supporting individuals with special needs.
- Experience with teaching and / or tutoring.
Additional Information :
This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position with up to 8 hours per week. Hourly rate of pay : $25.76. This position is grant-funded and is expected to end December 31, 2024, with the possibility of renewal.
Employment will require a criminal background screening.
