FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This is a clinical position involving responsibility for the provision of medical care working in collaboration with a licensed physician in accordance with a written practice agreement and medical protocols. Services provided include evaluation, diagnosis, prescription of medication and treatment of patients with the goal of achieving stabilization and optimal health. When employed in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health, this position will provide direct medical care in a variety of specialty clinics, which may involve work outside of normal business hours. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level licensed employee. Supervision of others may be a responsibility of the position.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

When employed in the Division of Communicable Disease and Nursing:

1. Provides medical care and treatment to patients in a variety of clinic settings such as: Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Clinic, Tuberculosis Clinic, and Immunization Clinic;

2. Oversight of clinic operations and directs staff during clinics;

3. Ensures compliance with New York State Department of Health Diagnostic and Treatment Center regulations;

4. Responsible for Dutchess County Exposure Control Program;

5. Orders and interprets lab tests; prescribes treatment;

6. Makes appropriate referrals as necessary;

7. Maintains, reviews, and monitors patient records and related data;

8. Participates in Quality Assurance activities;

9. Responds to subpoenas.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

When employed in the Division of Communicable Disease and Nursing:

Knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of infectious disease in order to treat patients and establish methods to prevent the spread of disease;

Knowledge of current public health trends and patient care practices in order to ensure effective patient care and provide service to the community;

Knowledge of the principles and practices of clinical care as defined by the New York State Department Education Nurse Practice Act in order to properly diagnose and treat patients;

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships;

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing;
Ability to maintain records and prepare narrative and statistical reports;
Ability to direct and supervise staff;

Ability to learn and use computerized systems;
Personal characteristics necessary to perform the duties of the position;
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

For positions in the Division of Communicable Disease and Nursing:
Current licensure in New York State as a Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in Family Practice.

SPECIAL REQUIRMENT

1. Current CPR and AED certification at time of permanent appointment.

2. Possession of a New York State Driver License at time of appointment.

The hours are Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $57.73 - $70.33 per hour
