Job Summary
Semi-skilled work at the working supervisor level in planning, overseeing, coordinating, and monitoring grounds keeping and landscaping of athletic fields, lawns, play areas and open woods used by the School Board, including maintenance of equipment and application of non-restrictive fungicides, herbicides, and pesticides. Trains, assigns, monitors, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned personnel. This class lies above that of Tractor Operator and below that of Grounds Crew Foreperson.
Essential Functions
1. Plans, organizes, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of subordinates involved in grounds keeping and landscaping work.
2. Estimates time and materials required, keeps records of labor and materials used, and orders supplies as necessary.
3. Instructs and consults with subordinates concerning problems and techniques.
4. Confers with school principals and others regarding work to be performed and scheduling of same
5. Performs grounds keeping and landscaping work, including maintenance to equipment.
6. Applies non-restricted herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides in accordance with Florida State law and established procedures.
7. Lays out athletic fields and play areas.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Probation: Six (6) months
Qualifications
Open Requirements: Must have had at least two (2) years of experience in the care of grounds and/or landscaping that included that operation of light tractors or similar equipment.
Promotional Requirements: All permanent employees of the Duval County School Board Facilities Division who have served for one (1) year in the class of School Tractor Operator may apply.
Licensing:
A valid Florida Class E Driver's License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. A State of Florida Limited Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control certification is required, and must be maintained during employment in this class. First Aid & CPR certification must be obtained prior to completion of the employee’s probationary period and maintained during employment in this class.

- Thorough knowledge of the techniques, methods, practices, and procedures used in planning, overseeing, coordinating, monitoring, grounds keeping and landscaping of athletic fields, lawns, play areas and open woods
- Knowledge of materials, procedures and equipment used in the maintenance of athletic fields, lawns, play areas and open woods used by the School Board
- Knowledge of Civil Service and Personnel Rules and Regulations and applicable Collective Bargaining Contracts
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures of the trade
- Knowledge of non-restrictive herbicide, pesticide and fungicide operations
- Knowledge of supervisory methods, techniques, and practices
