What are the responsibilities and job description for the Power Systems Engineer position at DVL Group Inc?
The Power Systems Engineer works with other Engineers, DVL Sales, Program Management as well as chosen contractors, engineers, equipment manufacturers and with the end user customer. It includes using prior experience for being responsible for the whole integrated power systems engineering project from conception to completion.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE DOING
- Overseeing an integrated electrical controls project from start-to-finish including:
Working with the Sales Engineer to help define & budget a desired project
Upon closing the project, refining the budget costs to actual projected costs
Developing submittal drawings as required for the project
Working & coordinating with outside switchgear vendors (General Electric, Square D, DVM, etc.) as required
Providing schematics for the exact design of the controls, basically all wiring on the secondarys of the PTs, CPTs, PTs, breaker secondary contacts, relays, generator control devices, power supplies, PLCs, networking & communications, annunciation, control switches, etc.
Set up & write the PLC control & redundancy logic, HMI graphics and pages as required to accomplish the desired operations
Become familiar with and apply & program Woodward Generator control devices. Interface to the PLC as required
Become familiar with and apply & program SEL, GE, Schneider, Bender or Basler protective relay devices and interface to the PLC as required
Oversee the construction of the system
Write the specific sequence of operations, factory & field test scripts
Participate in site & construction coordination meetings as required
Run the factory witness test
Field check, test, startup, commissioning, and training as required
Ongoing service as required
Assist in closing documentation requirements
- Accurately constructs control panels, field wiring modifications, changes, etc. The wiring work performed is neat, looks like quality and resembles high quality OEM construction.
- Perform start up, maintenance & troubleshooting of ATSs and other electrical control systems as required.
- Set up protective relaying systems as required to achieve desired Generator parallel operations or Utility/generator parallel operations.
- Become familiar with and apply proper operation of all Liebert present and discontinued larger single phase and three phase UPS equipment.
- Safely, efficiently & properly perform load bank tests (UPSs, Generators, etc.) and other general and simpler corrective maintenance procedures related to basic switchgear & ATSs.
- Safely, efficiently & properly perform Infrared Imaging and power quality analysis.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY
- Several years working experience relating to the responsibilities of the job. This experience can be with a major Switchgear Manufacturer or Assembler, Generator Dealer or Distributor, PLC or Controls Manufacturer or Control Systems provider.
- Prior Electrical/Generator hands on controls design and/or field experience is preferred.
- BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or an Engineering related degree like Electrical Power Engineering preferred.
- AutoCAD and/or Promise E experience for preparation of electrical single lines, schematics, elevations, floor plans, various control systems, mechanical piping systems, etc.
- A general understanding of Electrical generation, distribution, conditioning & control systems as well as the control devices commonly utilized with them.
- Understanding of and experience with the National Electric Code.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E & OSHA electrical safety regulations.
- Proficient with Microsoft office suite.
- A basic understanding and/or willing to learn the requirements for setting up IT/server networks as typically utilized within electrical control systems.
- A general understanding of the Construction Design-Bid Build & Design-Build processes.
- Experience with General Electric and/or Allen Bradley PLC systems and their software.
- Experience with Woodward Control devices.
- Experience with SEL, GE, Schneider, Basler protection & Control products.
- Experience with SCADA systems application & deployment.
- Valid drivers license to drive to customer sites.

The salary pay range is $97,000 - $135,000/year plus car allowance and bonus based on relevant power systems service experience.
