Job Summary:
The Mechanical Switchgear Engineer will lead the mechanical design efforts for incoming utility sections of switchgear systems. This position focuses on creating robust, compliant, and efficient designs to meet the needs of utility companies across the United States. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in mechanical engineering, a strong understanding of utility standards, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality designs for power distribution equipment.
Job Status (FLSA): Full-Time, Exempt
Location: West Chester, PA or North Wales, PA production facility. Other locations as assigned.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following list of responsibilities is not all inclusive, additional projects and/or tasks may be assigned to meet operational needs. DVM retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position should operational needs warrant.
- Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards such as ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA, as well as specific utility requirements (Euserc).
- Evaluate the sales proposal and conduct feasibility studies to meet safety, reliability, and durability.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers on utility requirements.
- Develop detailed mechanical designs for incoming utility sections of switchgear systems, including enclosures, busbars, mounting structures, and interfaces.
- Create and review technical drawings, 3D models, and specifications to ensure accuracy, functionality, and compliance.
- Collaborate with electrical design engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Provide technical support and documentation to Sales in the bidding process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5 years of experience in mechanical design for switchgear, power distribution, or similar electrical equipment.
- Experience in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo).
- Strong knowledge of utility standards and industry codes (EUSERC, ANSI, IEEE, UL, NEMA) across various regions in the U.S. Familiarity with utility specifications such as PPL and PSE&G is a plus.
- PE or ability to obtain one, EIT preferred
- Experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear systems preferably.
- Satisfactory completion of additional background screening.
Physical Requirements:
- The work environment is a typical office environment, with quiet to moderate noise level, and traditional lighting.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and operating a computer.
- Must be able to communicate effectively using phones or computer software.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Engineers should adhere to safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and follow ergonomic guidelines to prevent injuries.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the assigned facilities.
- Must be able to travel between DVM locations as needed, some travel could require overnight stays.
