Position: Security Officer (Full-Time)
Shift: Monday through Friday - 7:00 am to 3:00 pm
Reports to: Head of Campus Safety and Security
Overall Responsibility
The Security Officer position falls under the D-E Facilities Department and primarily consists of a fixed gatehouse post, roving patrol, or other security-related duties assigned as needed. When assigned to the Gatehouse entrance, the security officer is the first contact for all who enter our campus. The Gatehouse Security Officer delivers exceptional customer service while fostering an environment of safety and security. This includes but is not limited to, screening and documenting all traffic and persons entering the community, providing valid parking passes & maps, giving concise verbal directions to assist visitors with wayfinding, and directing emergency response vehicles to the appropriate location. The security officer may also be assigned to perform essential tasks related to the operations of the Facilities Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a visible and professional presence at all times.
- Convey a customer service approach while interacting with all students, faculty, staff, or visitors, while enforcing D-E policies and being vigilant for any suspicious persons, packages or activity.
- Register visitors and vendors in accordance with policy.
- Provide concise and accurate directions to visitors.
- Answer security phone and transfer or direct next steps when applicable.
- Monitor security cameras.
- Assess safety equipment on a rotating basis.
- Ability to utilize automated security systems used by D-E (training provided).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- A valid Security Officer Registration Act (SORA) License is preferred.
- AED / CPR Certified is preferred.
- One year or more of experience in a security-related field is preferred.
- Must have strong communication skills, problem-solving skills, and be self-motivated.
- Computer literacy skills with Excel and email are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/OTHER:
- Sufficient physical ability, strength, mobility, and stamina to perform job duties in hot, cold, and inclement weather conditions. This may include, but not be limited to, snow removal as a function of the Facilities Department.
- Ability to maintain a foot/fixed post when required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Subject to recall: As a full-time employee of the Facilities Department, D-E shall be considered the primary obligation for employment, and reporting for duty during scheduled off-hours is required for emergent situations. Failure to report may only be approved by the Director of Facilities.
