Description
Summary:
The Group Leader reports to our Plant manager and is responsible for performing set-ups for and group lead shop operations on a variety of equipment for the purpose of producing finished parts from raw stock or semi-finished purchased parts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set-up and install tooling necessary for standard parts production Read prints and specification sheets, obtain tooling from the tool storage area, set-up any of the special production machines in the prescribed manner, and make necessary adjustments to produce parts within stated manufacturing tolerances.
- Operate machines as set-up for first piece try-out of set-up. Check dimensions of parts and operations being performed to be sure they conform to prescribed tolerances and quality standards. Use a variety of measuring equipment (i.e. steel scales, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, plug and ring gages and other fixed or adjustable gages) and reference blueprints in checking set-up and operations.
- Instruct others in proper operation of and safety procedures for machines. Assist others with set-up operations. Operate machines as required.
- Sharpen a variety of cutting, drilling and boring tools as necessary to obtain or maintain required quality standards and dimensions. Use standard or specialized sharpening equipment with fixtures or by hand. Change cutting oils, clean and lubricate machinery as required. Use guards required to prevent injury and oil splash.
- Maintain tool storage area organization and tooling stock levels, requisitioning replacement as needed.
- In accordance with shop procedures, care for hand tools, manufacturing devices, and tooling and repair machine tools as needed. Design, build and test tooling (including jigs and fixtures) and when necessary rebuild current tooling.
- Provide Managerial support for shop area, including:
- Assigning operators to work stations.
- Schedule all CNC Machine Production.
- Identification and correction of quality and production problems.
- Referral of disciplinary matters to Shop Supervisor for disposition.
- Record production information as required. Maintain production records and files on shop performance and labor charged against individual orders.
- Use available safety equipment and observe shop safety procedures, individually and of the entire group. Maintain neatness and cleanliness of the entire shop.

Requirements
Required Skills / Experience / Equipment Operation:
- Must have sufficient experience and/or training in basic machine shop practices to program, set-up, and operate both manual and CNC equipment in accordance with engineering drawings and tooling instructions.
- Must already possess ALL CNC Intermediate Program / Set-Up / Operate VIII Skills, Experience and Requirements.
- Must display and maintain a positive attitude.
- Need ability to plan and utilize production labor consistent with company policies and maintain the cooperation and respect of the employees in the group.
Physical/Mental Essential Functions:
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to reach above shoulders
- Ability to walk back and forward thought-out facility
- Ability to control operation of hand or foot
- Ability to lift / carry up to 70 pounds.
- Ability to turn wrist frequently in repetitive motion
Working Conditions:
Work environment is very fast paced. Work is primarily conducted on the shop floor.
