What are the responsibilities and job description for the Powell Unit Operator position at DX (030)?
Job Summary:
Operations provides warehousing, packaging, transportation, bleach manufacture, and office support functions for the district or Company. The operator performs various functions in the compressed gas filling process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major Duties/Critical Tasks: (may be required to perform any or all of the following job tasks, depending upon bleach production requirements and the organization and size of the plant)
- Sets controls in specified sequence on Powell Unit control panel to start and stop processing
- Turns valves or changes controls to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure and vacuum levels.
- Draws samples for analysis and performs or assists with the performance of laboratory analyses
- Observes flowmeters and pressure gauges, turns valves and starts pumps to transfer chemicals to or from tanks and processing unit
- Gauges quantity of chemicals in tanks.
- Patrols tank farm to inspect pumps, motors, valves, piping and electrical ground-wire connections.
- Reports leaks, temperature and pressure abnormalities, and other potential hazards.
- Cleans and replaces filters
- Loads and unloads cargo tanks
- Treats wastewater
- Completes production logs, filling logs and other plant reports
- Performs warehouse or compressed gas packaging tasks when needed
- Replaces piping in the tank farm
- Connects/ disconnects and unloads railcars and moves vehicles within plant
- Completes daily and monthly inventories
- Attends safety meetings and training classes
All duties may be required on a daily basis.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education: High school diploma preferred
Experience: One to two years of stable work experience, preferably in a production environment.
Certification: Chemical technician training at a community college or technical school is preferred.
