They are a national company that designs, develops, finances & constructs decentralized renewable energy systems for commercial & industrial companies. Fast forward to today, our client is owned by an international investor in sustainability initiatives, which has enabled the company to have reliable access to funding from key investors.
Role Overview
This company’s M&A team acquires high-quality, de-risked solar & energy storage projects for commercial, industrial, public sector, & community solar markets. The Senior Associate will support & eventually lead asset acquisitions, including transaction structuring, execution, financial analysis, & commercial negotiations. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, & skilled in M&A, financial modeling, & project management, with strong communication & teamwork abilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Identify & generate new M&A project & portfolio acquisition opportunities through market research, conferences, & outreach.
- Perform acquisition valuations using the company’s proprietary financial model, assessing projects from sellers & internal sources.
- Support & lead negotiations of M&A acquisition agreements & related transaction documents.
- Maintain a strong pipeline of actionable acquisition opportunities in U.S. on-site solar & energy storage markets.
- Collaborate with internal teams – ranging from project development to Engineering, to ensure a smooth acquisition process.
- Execute core M&A processes, including letters of intent, deal documentation & due diligence management.
- Analyze & negotiate commercial documents such as PPAs, among other items.
- Attend industry conferences & webinars to expand market expertise & network for potential business opportunities.
- Track contacts & opportunities using Salesforce & internal company tools.
- Create presentations & bid documents for M&A opportunities
- Lead due diligence efforts for potential acquisitions
- Coordinate with internal & external experts in legal, finance, & asset management.
- Determine valuations for potential acquisitions in coordination with the finance team.
- Stay informed on clean energy industry trends, including federal & state market incentives & policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with experience in solar &/or energy storage origination & sales.
- Experience in energy project M&A, project finance, &/or development, preferably in the decentralized renewable energy industry.
- Detail-oriented & results-driven, with the ability to collaborate across finance, legal, project development, construction, engineering & asset management teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience presenting transactions to senior executives.
- Strong background in negotiations for commercial transactions in energy project acquisitions.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills & experience in financial modeling for renewable energy projects.
- Proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of U.S. power markets preferred.
- Demonstrates accountability, responsibility, mindfulness, respect, & collaboration in the workplace.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support business objectives.
