Description
SUMMARY
Material Handlers move materials, supplies, and finished goods to and from trucks, storage locations, and production areas throughout the plant. They operate various powered industrial trucks and other material handling tools, in addition to performing related functions to accurately track the movement of materials throughout the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safely operate powered industrial lift trucks; including performing daily maintenance/safety checks on equipment.
- Transport materials, supplies and finished goods in a safe and efficient manner to facilitate the operations of other departments within the plant.
- Load and unload shipping trailers; operates dock levelers, completes appropriate lockout/tagout procedures.
- Document and track the movement of materials; normally by accurately operating a RF scanner and its supporting systems, but also through the use of paper based systems or forms.
- Restack or palletize materials.
- Verify the accuracy of labels and other documents.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the warehouse.
- Maintain regular, dependable and reliable attendance.
- Comply with all company policies and programs (including providing leadership for safety initiatives within the facility).
- Complete all other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience operating powered industrial trucks (forklifts) and radio frequency (RF) scanners strongly preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Able to read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, decimals and fractions in multiple units of measurement.
- Able accurately to operate RF scanner technology with training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write short correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to individuals and small groupls. .
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Ability to gain and maintain a company issued Industrial Truck Operators license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- While performing duties of job, employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must be able to safely mount, operate, and dismount a forklift. Must be able to see and read production schedules, labels, and computer screens. Employee must regularly lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Works in normal manufacturing environment. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards and dangerous chemicals/solvents if proper safety procedures are not followed.
- Must perform while wearing proper personal protective equipment as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The main work area is indoors, but not fully heated or air conditioned. Occasionally the employee will have to work outside for short periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
