SUMMARY
The QA Lead assists the Quality Supervisor by providing leadership to an assigned group of Quality employees. They help to ensure their team meets SQF standards while maintaining standards related to quality, environmental, safety, and efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate safely and ensure team members do the same.
- Assist the Quality Supervisor in managing an assigned group of employees, including evaluating work performance, safety, and GMP practices.
- Perform duties of absent quality employees.
- Train quality personnel or coordinate training in safe and efficient work processes.
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other department leads and supervisors to address quality issues.
- Maintain daily quality reports.
- Ensure safety, training, environmental, and quality standards are met.
- Communicate with the oncoming Team Leader.
- Comply with all company policies.
- Ensure all housekeeping is maintained in a clear and orderly fashion in assigned areas and GMPs are adhered to.
- Complete additional assigned duties as required
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Update and manage hold logs and reports.
- Scan and organize HACCP paperwork.
- Perform scale calibrations.
- Verify hold tags and startup paperwork.
- Manage COA distribution and filing.
- Perform finished product and water testing.
- Update the training matrix.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college or degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in quality in a food quality environment
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Proficient in basic math, percentages, and algebra.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- The ability to obtain HACCP and PCQI Certification
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Long hours, often involving critical adjustments to machinery.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work, exerting up to 75 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. constantly, performing such activities as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, feeling, lifting, and grasping.
- Works in a normal manufacturing environment. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards and dangerous chemicals/solvents if proper safety procedures are not followed.
- Works in temperature extremes and dampness.
- Proper personal protective equipment is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Often wet and humid.
