Purpose of Home Infusion Therapy
Home infusion therapy is a method of administering treatment directly in a patient's home, as well as in other settings such as nursing homes, hospitals, and outpatient clinics. This flexibility allows patients to have more control over their care.
The Role of a Home Infusion RN
A Home Infusion Registered Nurse delivers exceptional patient care by providing specialized treatment to adult patients. As a Home Infusion RN, the primary responsibility involves administering various types of infusion therapies, including IVIG, monoclonal antibodies, enzyme replacement, clotting factor, and other agents using different methods of administration.
Responsibilities and Requirements
- Administer infusion therapies, following physician orders and established protocols.
- Aess and monitor patients during infusion therapy to ensure safety and efficacy.
- Educate patients and their families on infusion therapy procedures, potential side effects, and self-care practices.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Work Environment
This position requires travel to the patient's home or other clinical settings as needed. On-call responsibilities are assumed during the day, evening, weekends, and holidays per individual employee agreement.
Physical Demands and Safety Requirements
- Able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Exposed to potentially hazardous substances, which could have possible effects on reproduction.
- Exposed to blood, body fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
- Must follow safety requirements, including wearing closed-toe shoes, facemask, gown, gloves, and goggles when indicated.
Requirements
- Current and valid RN license.
- A minimum of 3 years nursing experience.
- Excellent IV skills and passion for working with clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a home care setting.
- Proficient in electronic health record (EHR).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in infusion therapy (CRNI) is a plus.
- Minimum of 1 year in hospital infusion therapy, home infusion therapy preferred.
- Experience in critical care areas preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year in pediatric and adult medical care.
