Title: Recreation Manager/SGA Coordinator
Type: Full-time
Summary
Reports to the Training/Program Director. Directly supervises the recreation assistants. Responsible for the provision of a structured, well-rounded recreation program and the Student Government Association (SGA), in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.
Essential Functions
- Plans, coordinates, and supervises the administrative and programmatic activities of the department.
- Provides staff training, evaluates staff performance, and recommends department and personnel changes to the Training/Program Director.
- Assists the Training/Program Director in preparing the department budget; monitors and controls expenditures.
- Assists in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting recreation programs. Coordinates with other departments to ensure compliance with overall center objectives.
- Works with the SGA Advisor; oversees SGA activities and functions, including regular meetings, Student Suggestion Program, and administration of the student welfare fund.
- Instructs students in specific on- and off-center recreation activities.
- Counsels and motivates students regarding behavior, training, personal, and/or work habits and problems. Coordinates with counselors and others as necessary.
- Oversees a variety of well-planned recreation/avocation activities, including arts and crafts, water safety programs, individual and team sports, special interest programs, and others.
- Develops and distributes weekly, monthly, and annual recreation/vocational plans and schedules of activities. Prepares staff schedules.
- Controls use of equipment and supplies, makes minor repairs, and recommends purchases.
- Organizes special activities.
- Maintains and develops liaisons with community organizations providing recreational opportunities and facilities.
- Assists in the center’s outreach efforts and public education program.
- Provides information regarding special and scheduled activities.
- Coordinates the new enrollee recreation orientation.
- Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
- Acts as a responsible custodian for the assigned center property.
- Reports violations of ethical behavior.
- Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.
- Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns.

Requirements
Required Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in recreation, physical education, teacher certification, or related field
- One year of related experience; one year of experience in a supervisor capacity
- Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements
- CDL Preferred, but not required
Certifications/Competencies
- Current CPR, First Aid, and water safety certifications
- Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer proficiency; proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing applications required
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
- If position requires driving, a valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required
- I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check
