Job Description:
The Engineering Technician will perform construction phase testing and inspections at on-going projects, providing accurate notes and descriptions of field activities while reporting daily to their supervisor. They will also be required to provide site inspection reports (SIRs), daily summary emails, and project documentation.
- Conduct site visits, testing, and inspection services at construction job sites.
- Perform laboratory testing on soil samples, including physical index properties, permeability, and moisture-density relationship.
- Assist geotechnical engineers with site investigation activities such as soil borings and/or test pit excavations, field permeability/percolation tests, and other tasks.
- Pickup and drop-off samples to laboratories.
- Review and reference project documents, including site-civil, structural, architectural plans, geotechnical reports, and topographic surveys.
- Conduct structural steel and steel reinforcement inspections.
- Perform footing subgrade inspections to review soils composition and bearing capacity.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors and project managers.
- Maintain calibrated instruments, collect and report data, manage lab supply/inventory, and assist in report preparation.
- Ensure safety policies and procedures are followed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering or construction-related field preferred.
- 0-4 years experience in construction inspection field or laboratory testing.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to maintain and operate personal/company vehicle.
- Hands-on experience with metric and English tools.
- American Concrete Institute (ACI) concrete field-testing technician certificate, accredited construction inspection/materials testing certificates, OSHA 40, OSHA 10, and/or American Portable Nuclear Gauge Association (APNGA) gauge training preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to understand general computer commands and learn supporting software.
- Independent and critical thinking abilities.
- Self-starter who can work independently and with team members.
Physical Demands:
- Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Required to have visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspections.
Work Environment:
- Field inspections/visits may include early morning or late evening timing at project sites.
- Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Expected to perform majority of work week outdoors, walking on uneven surfaces in various weather conditions.
- Subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding, and exposure to chemicals.
