Minimum of one year experience working with students diagnosed with Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Developmental Disabilities, severely handicapped, etc. Must become certified in Professional Assault Crisis Training (Pro-Act) within 30 days of employment.
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the guidance and supervision of the classroom Teacher and/or Principal, assist teaching staff with student instruction and direct supervision. Participate in the development and implementation of students’ behavioral programs in an academic classroom setting including the development of positive relationships, crisis intervention and implementation of school policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The essential duties include, but are not limited to, the items below: Assist teacher with curriculum, grading and maintaining student behavior in the classroom and during off-campus classroom activities (field trips, work programs, etc.) Communicate IEP goals to students regularly; assist in development of measurable learning objectives and guide students towards mastery. Correct student errors in a positive and timely manner. Utilize appropriate instructional materials and instructional techniques as prescribed by classroom teacher. Implement lesson plans as designed by classroom teacher. Assist in tracking the completion of students’ classroom assignments and homework. Participate in the development of treatment plans; implement interventions as prescribed in plan. Assist in the implementation of Professional Assault Crisis Training (Pro-ACT) techniques. Assist in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) to include data collection. Perform duties of a 1:1 Aide when needed and may be temporarily re-assigned to meet staffing standards. Attend in-service trainings and all other required meetings. Adhere to policies and procedures found in the Dynamic Hope Schools Employee Handbook. Perform duties of Special Education (Substitute) Teacher as needed; teach special education students in a self-contained classroom. Maintain a positive and professional demeanor; work cooperatively with multi-disciplinary teams to serve a diverse and challenging student population. Maintain a highly structured classroom and appropriate level of student supervision at all times. Complete incident reports when required. Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor while working with a diverse and challenging student population. Ability to maintain excellent communication skills with students, parents and coworkers. Ability to provide positive reinforcements to students by using a variety of incentives and rewards, both tangible and social. Knowledge and a demonstrated understanding of applicable students' diagnoses. Ability to foster student motivation through enthusiasm and encouragement and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a positive attitude. Flexibility in daily job assignments.
