Manufacturing Sales Engineer/Lead Estimator
The role of a Manufacturing Project Manager involves overseeing the estimating and sales process associated with sheet metal fabrication projects in our job shop environment. The Project Manager will work closely with our estimator, process engineer, production manager, and ownership to ensure that potential projects are a good fit for our shop and estimated efficiently, meeting both client expectations and company profitability goals.
A Sales Engineer/Lead Estimator will be proficient in the below specialties:
• Project Assessment: Evaluate project specifications, drawings, and requirements to accurately assess materials, labor, equipment, and other resources needed for sheet metal fabrication jobs. Compile this data to determine if the project is appropriate for the equipment and resources available.
• Cost Estimation: Utilize knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, materials, labor rates, and overhead costs to develop precise cost estimates for projects using Paperless Parts quoting software This includes estimating direct costs such as materials and labor, as well as indirect costs such as overhead and profit margins.
• Time Management: Develop realistic project timelines based on the scope of work, resource availability, and production capacity. Coordinate with production and scheduling teams to ensure accurate scheduling and efficient project execution within the Fulcrum Pro ERP software.
• Vendor Relations: Communicate with material suppliers, subcontractors, and other vendors to obtain pricing and lead time information for materials and services needed for projects. Negotiate favorable terms and pricing when possible to optimize project profitability.
• Sales Generation: Use online sourcing networks to assess potential sales opportunities and secure new work.
• Engineering: Assist Process Engineer with programming the laser and press brake using Striker Systems, PEP, and DiamondBEND software. Light use of Solidworks 2024 will be required.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed records of project estimates, including documentation of assumptions, methodologies, and sources of pricing information. Update and refine estimating software and tools to improve accuracy and efficiency over time.
• Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the estimators and internal teams including engineering, and production management to ensure alignment on project requirements, pricing strategies, and overall business objectives.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in sheet metal fabrication and estimating techniques. Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings to enhance competitiveness and profitability.
• Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with clients by providing timely and accurate cost estimates and quotations. Address client inquiries and requests in a professional and courteous manner. Collaborate with estimators to follow up on quotations and secure new business opportunities.
Additional Job Duties:
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to perform accurate calculations and estimates.
• Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to learn new software tools as needed.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Ability to work in an environment that can be loud.
• Operate a forklift if needed. • Operate press brake if needed.
• Operate fiber laser if needed.
• Any other shop duties as requested by staff that can be done in a safe manner.
• Work around dogs.

Compensation: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
