Position Overview:
The Lean Production Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the production floor, ensuring the effective supervision of a unionized workforce. This role will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and productivity while promoting a culture of Lean manufacturing. The supervisor will be responsible for coordinating production activities, ensuring operational goals are met, and aligning team efforts with company objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and Lead Production Team:
- Manage, coach, and develop a unionized workforce to ensure optimal performance and adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Produce production schedules, adjusting as necessary to meet demand and resolve bottlenecks.
- Act as the primary point of contact between union employees and management, addressing labor concerns, fostering communication, and ensuring compliance with the union contract.
- Lean Manufacturing Initiatives:
- Lead Lean manufacturing initiatives to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging employee involvement in Lean projects and problem-solving activities.
- Utilize tools like Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Kaizen, and root cause analysis to identify areas of improvement and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure Safety and Quality Compliance:
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and protocols.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, implementing corrective actions as needed to maintain product quality.
- Monitor and report key production metrics (e.g., efficiency, downtime, scrap rates) and implement actions to improve performance.
- Performance Management and Development:
- Provide leadership and guidance, conduct performance reviews, providing constructive feedback, and developing training plans for employees.
- Responsible for employee performance management, including disciplinary actions.
- Promote a positive working environment by fostering open communication and collaboration between team members.
- Address and resolve any employee performance or behavioral issues in accordance with company policies and union agreements.
- Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Work closely with other departments such as engineering, maintenance, quality, planning and purchasing to ensure smooth production operations.
- Actively participate in cross-functional teams to solve production-related challenges and improve overall plant performance.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing supervisory role, ideally in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing and driving Lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, etc.) preferred, or equivalent experience in a manufacturing supervisory role.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse workforce.
- In-depth knowledge of Lean principles, tools, and methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, Root Cause Analysis).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to resolve conflicts and handle sensitive issues in a unionized environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated strong and effective communication skills: written, oral, and interpersonal
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, and employ effective time management skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel proficiency
- Proficiency in the manufacturing modules of an ERP system
- CPR/First Aid/First Responder certification preferred, but not required
