The Role
Associate Director/Director of IP: A dynamic and collaborative attorney with a strong legal and biological background, capable of navigating complex IP landscapes to protect our innovative discoveries.
This role will work across the organization to strategically shape and safeguard our IP portfolio, driving forward our mission to advance gene therapy breakthroughs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the company's global IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Assist in the generation and implementation of a comprehensive intellectual property strategy that aligns with the company's business objectives and innovation pipeline.
- Work with internal R&D teams and external patent counsel to prepare, file, and prosecute patent applications.
- Manage ongoing patent filings and ensure strategic alignment with business goals.
- Conduct IP diligence, including patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
- Monitor trends to advise on opportunities and threats related to intellectual property.
- Assist with negotiation and management of IP licensing agreements, collaborations, and joint ventures related to intellectual property.
- Support technology transfers and licensing-out efforts.
Requirements:
- J.D. from a major accredited law school and license to practice in at least one US jurisdiction.
- PhD in molecular or cellular biology or similar discipline.
- 5 years' prior experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications and conducting freedom to operate analyses in the biotech and/or pharmaceutical areas.
