SUMMARY: The goals of this position are to provide each student with an educational program that will enable them to acquire the skills needed to function as independently as possible and reintegrate to their home school.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison between the district and schools who support our level D students placed outside of Dysart.
  • Works with level D schools on IEPs for students, attends meeting, and supports transitions into and out of programs.
  • Assists with screening, conducts appropriate academic evaluations.
  • Develops, implements and monitors appropriate academic/behavioral individual educational plans.
  • Implements and advocates inclusion into regular education as appropriate for individual students.
  • Consults with regular classroom teachers regarding students' needs and progress.
  • Consults with special education staff regarding inclusion issues and student progress.
  • Maintains accurate records for documentation of student progress.
  • Participates in the Child Study Team process.
  • Maintains on-going communication (written and verbal) with parents and out-of-district school staff.
  • Provides behavior management suggestions and behavior plan suggestions to regular classroom teachers for discipline needs of special education students.
  • Coordinates with psychologists, service coordinators and related service providers, to create a written, year-long calendar for annual IEP meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with classroom teachers, related service staff, psychologists, OT, PT and speech staff to provide coordinated services to students.
  • Ensures that all paperwork is completed within required timelines and complies with Federal and State rules and regulations.
  • Attends scheduled in-service activities, particularly those involving inclusion best practices.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Education/Certification

  • Master's Degree in Special Education or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid Arizona Special Education certificate.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Experience

  • Five years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in providing professional development to certified teachers.
  • Must have classroom experience with students identified with disabilities.
  • Must be familiar with special education law.
  • Experience in leadership, Professional and Collaborative skills and IDEA preferred.

KNOWLEDGE OF

  • Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Writing general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Principles and practices of program administration.
  • Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis.
  • Best practices, trends and emerging technologies.
  • Principles and techniques of effective oral presentations.
  • Uses and properties of supplies and equipment.
  • Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.

SKILL IN

  • Applying reason to research and solving moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
  • Interpreting an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Performing basic original research to assist with developing teaching plans and instructional materials.
  • Maintaining and updating documentation.
  • Organizing and maintaining records, files and program information.
  • Gathering data, analyzing findings and applying logic and reason.
  • Authoring and preparing original reports, documents and presentations.
  • Researching industry trends, solutions and best practices.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications.
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Ada And Other Requirements

Positions in this class require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions: Work is routinely performed in an indoor environment.
