SUMMARY : To provide interpreting services for individuals with hearing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provides educational, social and informational interpreting services for the deaf and hearing impaired to facilitate communication between those who can hear and those who are deaf or hearing impaired.
- Tutors hearing impaired students utilizing a variety of forms of non-verbal and voice communications.
- Reviews, prepares and becomes familiar with subject matter, vocabulary and terms to prepare for upcoming classes.
- Researches information to prepare for special assemblies, concerts, plays and / or field trips.
- Uses a variety of modalities and electronic devices such as closed captioning, hearing aids, and assistive listening devices and telecommunications equipment to enhance the understanding of the information being interpreted.
- Coordinates with other staff members providing services to students.
- Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- Other job related duties as assigned.

Positions in this class typically require : reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work : Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Working Conditions : Work is routinely performed in an indoor classroom environment.
